Baruntse Expedition

Baruntse another peak of 7,162 is also another mountain at Khumbu region attracting trekkers from the globe. Being a peak above 7,000 has already put Baruntse in the list of wonders of the world which makes it require no further introduction.

Crowned from four sides by Bruntse itself on the north, Hunku glacier on south, Barun glacier on the east and Imja glacier on the west the valley below gives a 360 degree view of the top of the world. Non other than Sir. Edmund Hillary led expedition team of Newzies in the month of May 1954 climbed this immaculate peak from the south ridge.

It is also amongst one of the few peaks of this height with a high rate of success with a normal ascent. The approach to the mountain follows the Mera Peak trek up to Mera La and then to Baruntse base camp. The route is generally a straightforward snow and ice climb but technical at some points needing some experience and knowledge of the mountains, the mountains of that range obviously would demand some physical fitness and training as well. Holy five ponds on the way up to Bruntse known as “pancha pokhari” and setting up a base camp right above it would give you a hunch that the wilderness would not go beyond this point. The expedition also offers royal view of Everest and Makalu.
