Sunkoshi River Rafting
Sunkoshi meaning the river of gold is another trans-boundary river generated in autonomous region of Tibet. The river is believed to leave some deposits of gold along with stones in ancient times for being it named so but according to several new theories the river carried alluvium turning the color of river gold is the reason why the river was named sunkoshi. Sunkoshi along with other koshi including bhote koshi deposits finally in sapta koshi. Sunkoshi is one of the biggest river contributing above 45% in the Saptakoshi’s deposit.
Ascending down from high region of Tibet quickly through gorges and steep drops, the river with big such big volume of water with such current creating tides and wave is a perfect location for extreme water as rafting. This river flowing down from the great Himalayan range is not just good for rafting for also for intermediate level kayaking. The tides and flow makes the raft in Sunkoshi a pre-intermediate raft with the stride ranging from III-IV in the level of technicality.
The river is famous for its vista of green grassy hills and fresh water fish served hot. It is also a favorite spot of habitants in Kathmandu and neighboring districts for fried fish. The small local dinners now have become a hide out for people in hot summer day after raft in Sunkoshi and Bhotekoshi. The rafting would also include exploring culture, local food, rich village culture.
